As a leader in building new homes and regenerating the town centre, the Council has significant influencing powers and opportunities to build better buildings and places, which are designed in sustainable ways, in sustainable locations and resilience to future changes in climate. The building and construction sector contributes significantly to GHG emissions, so transforming it becomes critical in addressing climate change. One of the crucial tools the Council has to lead climate action is the Local Plan, which can play a pivotal role, by integrating strategies and actions, and translating climate goals into practical mitigation and adaptation measures.
